Introduction

The Dawson Falls Visitor Centre is located within Egmont National Park (proposed to be named Te Papa-Kura-o-Taranaki) New Zealand’s second national park.

Dawson Falls Visitor Centre is located on the south-eastern side of the national park. The Taranaki/Egmont National Park Visitor Centre is on the northern side.

The visitor centre sits at 902 m above sea level, it can get cold, so come prepared.

Nearby is Dawson Falls waterfall and the Dawson Falls power station, one of the oldest operating hydro stations in the Southern hemisphere.

Opening hours

  • 9 am – 3.30 pm Thursday - Sunday
  • Closed Christmas Day (25 December).

Getting there

We are located at Manaia Road end in Egmont National Park, a 30-minute drive from Stratford.
Dawson Falls sits at the top end of Manaia Road. The drive to the road end is narrow and winds through scenic native forest.
