Arthur’s Pass Visitor Centre
Introduction
Arthur’s Pass Visitor Centre is based in the village of Arthur’s Pass, in the heart of the Arthur’s Pass National Park. Our focus is on safety in the outdoors, as well as giving information about the most famous residents: Kea and Kiwi, and the threats to their existence.
The Park is deliberately undeveloped in the backcountry to retain its natural and wild character. It has many huts and tramping options, as well as some very popular day and short walks. Because of this lack of development, a higher level of backcountry experience is recommended on the multi day tramps, with navigation and river crossing skills required.
The Visitor Centre is currently located in a temporary portacom opposite the old Visitor Centre building, which is closed for renovation.

- 8.30 am to 4.30 pm 7 days a week
- Closed Christmas Day 25 December
Getting there
In Arthur’s Pass village on State Highway 73 about 140 km from Christchurch or 95 km from Greymouth.

- Personal Locator Beacon hire, and gear storage.
- Snacks, warm clothing, and rainwear available to buy from our souvenir shop.
