Introduction

Taranaki/ Egmont National Park Visitor Centre (also known as North Taranaki Visitor Centre) is located at Egmont Road end, the main gateway into the national park (proposed to be named Te Papa-Kura-o-Taranaki). Established in 1900, it is New Zealand’s second national park.

Nau mai, haere mai. On arrival at the road end call into the centre for an introduction to the park. Get expert advice and in-depth local knowledge from our friendly staff on recreational opportunities, current safety messages and conservation.

The visitor centre is at 945 m above sea level, it can get cold here so come prepared.

Opening hours

  • 8.30 am – 3.30 pm daily
  • Closed Christmas Day (25 December).

Getting there

We are located at the end of Egmont Road in Egmont National Park, 30 minutes’ drive from New Plymouth.
