Update August 2020: Te Mana o te Taiao - Aotearoa New Zealand Biodiversity Strategy 2020 launched
Te Mana o te Taiao sets out a strategic framework for the protection, restoration and sustainable use of biodiversity, particularly indigenous biodiversity, in Aotearoa New Zealand, from 2020 to 2050.
Consultation began in 2018 that led to the development of the discussion document, Te Koiroa o te Koiora. The discussion document set out proposals for inclusion in a new strategy, including a vision, values and principles, long-term outcomes, goals and system shifts.
Public consultation ran between August and September 2019. Alongside written submissions, there was a series of public workshops and hui.
Consultation on Te Koiroa o te Koiora led to the development of Te Mana o te Taiao, which is the first part of the Aotearoa New Zealand Biodiversity Strategy.
The implementation plan will be developed collaboratively with central and local government, Treaty partners, and stakeholders.
