Check when Stewart Island hunting blocks are available during July - September 2025, before making an online booking request.

A new restricted hunting block booking system is coming

The way you book restricted hunting blocks on Stewart Island/Rakiura is changing. A new system will be introduced in late 2024 that will allow you to book these hunting blocks online.

Proposed predator removal in South Pegasus hunting block

Predator removal operations are proposed from June 2025 within the South Pegasus hunting block, including aerial application of toxic bait. A recommended caution period for venison consumption would be active once toxin has been laid.

Hunting can continue throughout operational work to remove predators at the discretion of individual hunters.

Note: You can only book blocks up to 12 months in advance of the start date of your booking. We will accept the first complete application received through this website or by email to stewartisland@doc.govt.nz. Complete email applications must include: full name, postal address, email address, phone, and the block and dates required.
