DOC is concerned that members of the public are still attempting to cross a closed section of the Pakihi Track of the Motu Trails National Cycleway.Date: 07 December 2016

DOC rangers working on reopening the track have encountered several groups of cyclists who had ignored the track closed signage.
DOC is doing everything in its power to reopen the track for the Christmas season but it will not be reopened until users’ safety is ensured.
Safety must take priority, and with the scale and steepness of the slip, it’s not one to take chances on. DOC continues to work closely with Motu Trails Charitable Trust.
Jim Robinson, executive officer, Motu Trails Charitable Trust says: “At the trust we’ve really appreciated the speed of response and the priority the DOC team has given to this. Obviously, it’s not helpful timing with peak season approaching, but it is awesome to see everyone working together to get a prompt, safe resolution.”
DOC will continue to prioritize work on the trail and users can check the DOC website for info regarding the status of the Pakihi Track.
In the meantime, DOC requests that all members of the public adhere to the track closure.
