Walk to the historic Dawson Falls hydro electric power generator, the oldest in continuous operation in New Zealand and amongst the oldest in the world.100 m return via same track
Dog access
The track is approximately 50 m in length from the roadside passing through kamahi forest above the Kapuni Stream.
Visitors can view the operating generator through the windows. An interpretation sign is at site.
Return the same way that you enter the site.
Dawson Falls Power Station is located near the Dawson Falls Visitor Centre at the top end of Manaia Road. From Stratford follow Celia St, then Opunake Road before turning onto Manaia Road and driving to the end. Walk approximately 50m down Manaia Road from the visitor centre and turn left at the power station sign.
Public transport is not available.
The small water race and vehicles passing the track entrance can be a hazard.
The power station’s generator is the oldest in continuous operation in New Zealand and amongst the oldest in the world.
