General
Where you can’t hunt
No hunting is allowed in:
- Murchison Mountains & Secretary
- Resolution
- Chalky
- Passage
- Coal
- Anchor
- Breaksea Island
- within 1 km of Wilmot Pass.
There are special conditions for hunting in the Waitutu area
- This permit covers the Waitutu Forest and part of the Maori land owned by Waitutu Incorporated.
- The Waitutu Incorporated land is subject to an agreement with the Crown which authorises it being managed as if it were a National Park.
- Port Craig to the Waitutu River is SILNA land and privately owned. Trampers and hunters are able to use the South Coast Track for access. Hunting is not permitted south of the South Coast Track nor within 500 metres of the north side of the track. Hunting south of the track is by permission of the landowner only.
What to hunt
- Red deer are found throughout the park. There are lower numbers in Eglinton Valley and higher in the rest of park.
- Chamois found in higher number around northern end of park and Lake Roe.
- Wild pigs in limited numbers south coast and West Cape.

Getting there
Access to Fiordland National Park hunting area is on foot, by boat or helicopter and by car via Milford Road/ Borland Road.

Dogs are not permitted.
Canadian Geese seasonal ballot
Shotgun permits are allowed for the seasonal ballot of Eglington Valley for Canadian Geese. These are issued by Fiordland Visitor Centre.
No permits for duck shooting.
