The track descends down steep steps from Constable Road then follows a farm valley to a natural viewpoint on the coast. The viewpoint offers superb views of the coastline northwards to Muriwai Beach and south toward Bethells Beach. The track continues on along the clifftop to Tirikohua Point.
Te Henga Walkway can no longer be walked in its entirety. The section from Tirikohua Point south to Bethells Beach is closed and inaccessible as major sections of the cliffs collapsed. Several large landslides occurred destroying large lengths of track during the severe weather in early 2023.
Care is needed on this track, which becomes slippery after periods of rain and is uneven and muddy in places.
The entrance to Te Henga Walkway is from Constable Rd, off Oaia Rd, Muriwai. The northern entrance is 46 km from downtown Auckland.
No dogs or other pets allowed. No cycling on the track.
The track crosses private land. Keep to the track and be careful around stock.
Be aware of dangers on the tracks and surrounding areas including clifftops.
