The Mātauranga Kura Taiao Fund fund supports whānau, hapū and iwi to preserve traditional Māori knowledge and its practical use in the management of indigenous biodiversity.

Te Rūnanga o Toa Rangatira Inc Toi Taiao o Toa

To revive the practise of taonga puoro and the mātauranga associated with it, within Ngāti Toa Rangatira.

  • a foundational knowledge of the origins of puoro
  • an understanding about the different types of puoro
  • practical experience creating their own collection of puoro
    learn the techniques required for each taonga
  • learn about the connection between puoro and the taiao
  • sustainable practise through tiaki taiao

A total of six wānanga held over a one-year period – three in Te Tauihu and three in Te Whanganui-ā-Tara. Participants of the wānanga will gain the following:

 

The wānanga are being filmed and the content used to create short videos as a learning resource.

Omataroa Rangitaiki No2 Charitable Trust Omataroa Rongoa Wānanga

To support local tangata whenua participation in the management of indigenous biodiversity, consistent with their traditional knowledge and practice. The project has three main components:

  • Local kaitiaki and kaumātua will lead wānanga and share kōrero and purākau about the whenua.
  • Hīkoi to wāhi tapu on the whenua and showcase current conservation mahi, including kiwi monitoring.
  • Kaitiaki workshops to give participants an opportunity to learn about, and gain practical experience in pest management, taiao monitoring, plant identification and rongoā Māori.
