38 km from Upper Tākaka into Cobb Valley, Kahurangi National Park. The road is unsealed, narrow and winding.
Follow Cobb Dam Road all the way to the Cobb Reservoir. Just before you arrive at the reservoir the Cobb Hostel is the first house on your right. It is signposted.

Water in the house is untreated and is from a nearby small stream.
Wasps and bumble bees can be an issue especially from February to May.
In winter check the expected weather forecast. Snow can close the Cobb road at the ridge for days at a time.
There are excellent tramping, fishing, hunting and botanising opportunities in the area.
