Early this morning a seat was placed to mark the occasion by DOC rangers along Meeanee Quay overlooking Pandora Pond.
The seat was paid for by the Lions Club of Napier Host and constructed and installed by local DOC rangers.
Lions Club of Napier Host President Tony Chittenden thanked DOC for working with his team on this project.
"We felt it was important that we worked in tandem with a local environmentally aware organisation and what better choice could there be but the Department of Conservation," he says."The rangers have done a great job in helping us to mark our organisation's 100 years of service."
DOC Napier-Ahuriri operations manager Connie Norgate said it was nice to work with local community partners who funded infrastructure such as this.
The seat cost the club $600 and has had a plaque inlaid reading: "Lions International 100 years Centenary. Donated by Lions Club of Napier Host in association with Department of Conservation 2017."
It is made locally out of hard wearing pine which will silver over the years fitting in with its natural setting.
