Classification of local purpose community reserve

Proposal

To classify a reserve as a local purpose community reserve.

Area description

Size of area: around 0.4033 ha

Location of area: Section 2 SO 468126, Tai Tapu, Canterbury

Area Description: The reserve is currently for scouting purposes. NZ Scouts no longer require the reserve for scouting purposes and the scout hall has been removed. The scouts' control and manage has already been revoked, bringing the reserve back into the management of the Department of Conservation. There is another community group interested in taking over the control and manage of this reserve. For this to happen, the reserve will need to be classified as a local purpose community reserve.

How to make a submission

Any person or organisation may make a submission in writing to the Director-General on the proposal.

Submissions closed 5:00 pm Friday 7 March 2025.

Your written submissions must provide reasons for supporting or objecting to the classification of this reserve.

2. Send us your submission before Friday 7 March 2025

Once submitted, submitters’ information is subject to the Official Information Act 1982 and may be released under that Act. If you wish to keep any part of your submission confidential, state this in writing when making your submission.

What happens next

After submissions close:

  1. The Minister of Conservation’s delegate will consider submissions, and submissions at a hearing if required.
  2. The classification will be recommended by the Minister of Conservation’s delegate
  3. Gazette Notice will be prepared and published.

The process is in accordance with Section 23 Reserves Act 1977.
