The Board’s governance role is to control and manage the Kaiteriteri Recreation Reserve and Kākā Point Historic Reserve, near Motueka, under the provisions of the Reserves Act 1977.
The Board is appointed by the Minister of Conservation under section 30 of the Reserves Act 1977. It has seven members, including an ex-officio position filled by the Department of Conservation’s Director Operations for the Northern South Island (or their delegate).

In the appointments process, consideration will be given to ensuring that the required skills are present across the Board as a whole.
The term of the appointment is for five years from 5 March 2025.
Typically, the Kaiteriteri Recreation Reserve Board meets monthly. There will also be time required for researching issues and working on projects, preparation time spent reading briefing material before meetings, and time for liaison and public consultation. The Chairperson can expect a considerably higher time commitment.
Board members are paid for attendance at meetings and other approved activities. Direct expenses incurred to attend meetings, such as travel costs, are reimbursed on an actual and reasonable basis.
Nominations are now closed.
Nominations will be considered by DOC and reference checks may be carried out. DOC will then make recommendations on appointments to the Minister of Conservation.
Appointments are likely to be confirmed early in 2025.
