Have your say on the application for a 10 year lease to occupy land for the Reefton Visitor Centre. Submissions close Wednesday 5 December 2018.

This application is notified under section 17SC of the Conservation Act 1987. The Minister of Conservation has received an application for a lease to continue to occupy the land upon which the Reefton Visitor Centre sits for a period of 10 years with one right of renewal for a further term of 10 years at 67-69 Broadway, Reefton being a local purpose reserve – visitor centre site.

Summary of proposal

The application includes the occupation of the site to provide:

  • Visitor information
  • Interpretation and information on conservation matters
  • Community information services.
  • Retailing of visitor related merchandise
  • To promote itinerate exhibitions of arts, crafts and other displays.
  • The leasing of part of the premises to a Bank.
  • The leasing of premises to ATM(s)
  • The leasing of Office Premises to the Department of Conservation or any other similarly suitable Tenant
  • The provision and rental of Meeting Room(s).
  • The leasing of premises to a café/coffee shop/coffee cart as is required to ensure the needs of visitors are met/enhanced.

Submissions close on Wednesday 5 December 2018 at 5 pm. Once submitted, submitters' information is subject to the Official Information Act 1982 and may be released under that Act. If you wish to keep any part of your submission confidential, you need to state this in writing when making your submission.

Any person or organisation wishing to be heard in support of his/her submission, must request (within that submission) an opportunity to appear before the Director-General.

DOC comment regarding publicly notified applications

The Minister of Conservation has made no determination regarding the suitability of this proposed concession on public conservation land.  This public notification should not be interpreted as an intention on the part of the Minister of Conservation to grant the proposed concession.
