On 13 December 2016, the Associate Minister of Conservation, Hon Peter Dunne, issued a consultation document on the game trophy export levy proposal.

Individuals, groups and organisations were encouraged to make a submission on the impacts of the proposed levy. Submissions on the proposal closed on 13 February 2017 at 5 pm.
Summary of submissions
