New management plan for Te Papa-Kura-o-Taranaki
Under Te Ture Whakatupua mō Te Kāhui Tupua 2025/Taranaki Maunga Collective Redress Act 2025, the Egmont National Park Management Plan 2002 will be replaced by He Kawa Ora mō Te Papa-Kura-o-Taranaki, a new management plan for Te Papa-Kura-o-Taranaki.
Te Tōpuni Kōkōrangi is seeking early comments to help shape the new plan before a draft is prepared. Comments can be made until 20 October 2026.

Summary
The Egmont National Park Management Plan is a statutory document which implements the Wanganui Conservancy Conservation Management Strategy (CMS) and establishes objectives for the integrated management of the natural, historic, cultural and recreational values of Te Papa-Kura-o-Taranaki, formerly known as Egmont National Park.
The Plan was approved by the New Zealand Conservation Authority in February 2002. The plan was prepared after extensive early consultation with the Taranaki community, including iwi, user and interest groups and local authorities.
In response to notification of the draft review, 77 submissions were received from a wide cross section of the Taranaki community which were taken into account in the preparation of the plan.
Bylaws
Bylaws are in place for Te Papa-Kura-o-Taranaki to control activities within the Park. These bylaws implement the NPMP. View the bylaws.
