This site is open year round for foot access.

Access information

Helicopter access: All year to Christmas Flat
Road access point: Karangarua
Foot access: Two days walk to Christmas Flat from SH6. One long day to Lame Duck Flat from SH 6 via Cassel Flat, or a 2-3 hour walk down from Christmas Flat landing site depending on track conditions.

Notes 

Tahr can be encountered anywhere but greater numbers on the true right above and around bush line. Coleridge Creek gives good access to tops. Chamois on lower slopes and deer along valley floor. Popular with hunters due to air access. Mixture of hard and reasonable country.
