Find out how to:

Create your account

You must create an account on the huts, campsites and lodges booking system to purchase a pass online, even if you are only using non-bookable facilities.

The pass will be loaded onto your profile. You will have to select the appropriate discount when making a booking.

Why is my email or account not recognised?

DOC has two booking systems: one is for the huts, campsites and lodges and the other is for the Great Walks.

Ensure you have created an account for the huts, campsites and lodges booking system. If the system does not recognise your email address you have most likely created an account for the other one.

How do I reset my password?

Click the ‘Forgot Password’ button at the bottom of the login pop-up.

Purchase a pass

Passes are purchased online from the huts, campsites and lodges booking system. The passes section is located at the top right of the homepage, next to ‘Login’.

Passes cannot be purchased on the Great Walks booking system.

If you require assistance buying a pass contact your local DOC visitor centre or use the ‘Contact Us’ link at the bottom of the homepage.

Do I have to nominate a start date when purchasing a pass?

Yes. You must nominate an ‘effective date’ when purchasing a pass. The effective date must be within 180 days of the purchase.

Can I purchase a pass without a credit card?

Yes. You can purchase a pass at your local DOC visitor centre.

Where in my account are my passes?

Any pass you have purchased can be viewed and reprinted by clicking on ‘Your Account’ at the top right of the home page, and then ‘Your Passes’.

Can I cancel my pass and get a refund?

Yes. You can cancel your pass within 48 hours of purchase if you have not made a booking using the pass and if it is not past the first day of the nominated effective date.

If you have made a booking, no refund will be issued. If it is past the first day of the nominated effective date, no refund will be issued.

To cancel a pass, log in to your account and click ‘Your Account’ at the top right of the home page. Select ‘Your Bookings’ to find the campsite pass you have just purchased and click cancel. A refund will be made to the credit card used for purchase.

After 48 hours of purchase, passes are non-refundable.

Can I modify my pass dates?

Passes cannot be modified. If you realise you have bought a pass with the incorrect date period you can cancel it within 48 hours for a full refund and buy the pass again with the correct dates.

Is the pass available to international visitors?

Yes. The passes are available to New Zealanders and international visitors.

I am a member of an organisation that receives discounts on passes, how do I obtain the discount?

When creating your account you have the option to apply for a discounted rate if you belong to one of these organisations

Fill in the required information and provide the necessary documentation when creating your account. You will be notified within three working days if the application has been accepted or declined.

Use your pass to make a booking

When you are making a booking using a pass, ensure that you choose the applicable discounted rate from the occupants list when making a booking. All passes for your account and the specific facility will be available to you.

If you have been charged it may be because you chose the standard rate rather than the pass rate.

Also ensure that the dates you are booking are within the valid period of the pass you have purchased.

Why did I not get my discount when booking?

You may not be able to use your pass for the hut or campsite you are trying to book. Some huts and campsites are entirely excluded (eg facilities on the Great Walks) or are excluded for a set period (eg seasonal exclusions).

Check the hut or campsite on the DOC website for more details.

I booked the wrong date – what should I do?

You can cancel your booking within 48 hours to get a full refund and rebook. Or you can wait 48 hours to modify your booking.

This applies only to the booking of a hut or campsite – you cannot modify your pass.

Can I use the pass to make bookings for someone else?

The pass is only for use by you. You can book for others in the same booking, but no discount will be applicable to them.

Can I make a booking for other pass holders?

Yes. Make sure you select the right number of people under ‘Pass – Adult (or Child)’. Then click ‘Occupant Details’ to enter all pass holders’ names and pass numbers.

If some people in your group have a pass and some do not, you can still make a booking for the group. Select the correct number of people under ‘Adult (or Child)’ and ‘Pass – Adult (or Child)’ and then click ‘Occupant Details’ to enter all pass holders’ names and pass numbers.

Can I use my pass for bookings I made previously?

The pass cannot be retrospectively applied to bookings already made.

Can I use my pass when booking a Great Walk online?

You cannot use your pass to make a booking for a Great Walk. Contact your local DOC visitor centre if you are eligible for a discount.
