Introduction

Venture through this old, but still working, sheep and beef farm and recreation reserve for stunning views of the Kapiti landscape, to see restoration work in action and learn about the local wildlife.
  • Look out for birds and weta and maybe lizards and native fish..
  • Walk through a remnant of an old but recovering kohekohe forest as well as see giant podocarps.
  • Find out about the 'Kiwi Caravan', the Cairn and the US Marines’ camp from World War II.

Discover this updated trail and look out for our new Guardian Post when you get there. On it you will find a special code word – write it down.

Getting there: Take the Mackays Crossing exit off SH1 to Queen Elizabeth Park and Whareroa Farm, approximately 3.5 km north of Paekakariki (note signage will change when Transmission Gully opens).

Opening times: Summer time - 8 am to 9 pm. Winter 8 am to 6 pm.
