This historic building has been converted into a bunkroom associated with the Whakahoro Campsite. It has bunks and mattresses but no heating or cooking facilities. Use the nearby shelters to prepare meals.
Fees
Backcountry Hut Passes
Passes are valid for use in this hut from 1 May to 30 September. Passes won't be accepted from 1 October to 30 April.
If you are using the bunkroom in connection with the Whanganui Journey you need to book your bunk bed using the online booking system. Fees are listed below.
If you are not using it as part of the Whanganui Journey the fee is $10 per night.
In the Great Walks season (1 October – 30 April)
For all visitors:
- Adult (18 years and over): $35 per person, per night
- Child (5 to 17 years): $18 per person, per night
Outside the Great Walks season (1 May – 30 September)
For all visitors:
- Adult (18 years and over): $10 per person, per night
- Child (5 to 17 years): $5 per person, per night

- Boil, filter or treat water – water from tap is not treated.
- No cellphone coverage on the Whanganui River.
- Wasps are a known hazard and are particularly common from January until May. Carry antihistamines if you’re allergic to their stings.
You won’t be charged for staying an extra night at a campsite or hut due to high river levels – don’t canoe the river when water levels are predicted to rise or flooded.
