Access to No Man's Road via Big Hill Station

Introduction

DOC must issue a permit for use of the easement to cross Big Hill Station and drive into the Ruahine Forest Park on No Man’s Road

DOC has an agreement with the owner of Big Hill Station for limited access to cross the farm. 4WD is required. As part of the agreement, DOC must issue a permit to anyone using the easement.

Permit bookings

Permits for the 2025/26 season (November 2025-July 2026) have been allocated.

Permit rules

Permits for public use are limited to two parties per week.

A permit covers the party leader and up to four party members.

Permits are issued for one week, from Friday to Thursday.

One vehicle is permitted per party, with one trip in and one trip out during the week.

To ensure as many people as possible have an opportunity, you can only have one permit for the season (either as a party leader or party member). The Party Leader should be the owner of the vehicle.

Times for entry are between 5 pm – 6 pm on Friday evenings or 7.30 am – 8.30 am on Saturday mornings.

Access through Big Hill Station is closed from August to October for farming operations.
