Opera Point Walk

Located in Whangapoua and Matarangi area in the Coromandel region

Opera Point on the Coromandel Peninsula offers a walk on an old tramway line to a pleasant beach.

The track follows an old tramway from the car park to a pleasant beach and the site of Craig’s saw mill, built in 1862. See Historic Opera Point.

The Raukawa pā site on the reserve offers excellent coastal views.

Off State Highway 25 near Whangapoua between Whitianga and Coromandel.

Opera Point is an important breeding site for our endangered birds. Dog are allowed on the track on lead only and they are prohibited on the beach during the bird nesting season.

The track has steep sections and becomes slippery and muddy after periods of rain.

A section of this track runs along the foreshore and is exposed in some sections. Beaware of potential fall hazards and keep children close.

There is a small carpark at the start of the track.
