Nominations process for the Options Development Group

Introduction

Nominations closed 11 August 2020 and the members were announced in September 2020. The ODG met regularly between October and March to develop draft recommendations for change.

In June 2020, the Director-General asked whānau, hapū and iwi, Māori organisations, and Conservation Board chairs to nominate people to work with us on the partial reviews. Appointments were made in September 2020.

Context for the nominations

The focus of the partial reviews of the Conservation General Policy and the General Policy for National Parks is how Treaty of Waitangi responsibilities are reflected in the general policies. The process for the partial reviews was designed after early engagement with whānau, hapū, iwi and Māori organisations.

We called for nominations to the ODG to ensure the partial reviews of the general polices are guided by perspectives and insights from te ao Māori.

Who could be nominated

Whānau, hapū, and iwi, Māori organisations, and conservation board chairs were asked to nominate people who have knowledge of:

  • te ao Māori
  • Treaty of Waitangi principles
  • te taiao, and
  • conservation policy and practice.

The nominee and the person making the nomination had to sign the nomination form.
