The Jobs for Nature projects

Introduction

We allocated $485.3 million to help over 225 projects across New Zealand. Iwi, hapū and whānau are at the heart of our partnership approach to Jobs for Nature programme.

As the Jobs for Nature programme comes to an end, projects are transitioning to a future beyond the life of the current funding. For some, this means they will complete their work and close, while others will focus on sustaining the gains achieved or seek to continue with community support or other investment.

Our project partners are creating jobs on private land and public conservation land that involve:

  • predator and weed control
  • restoring wetlands and priority waterways
  • regenerative planting
  • improving tracks, huts and other recreational, cultural or heritage assets and sites
  • training and capability development.

What’s included:

  • $198.6 million to work with councils, iwi and local businesses throughout the country to provide nature-based jobs both on and off public land, through regional partnership groups.
  • $141.3 million for ecosystem restoration on public land and private land.
  • $147.5 million for jobs in pest control and eradication, including advancing Predator Free New Zealand and working with iwi to prevent the collapse of North Island forests.
