These sister projects have the vision ‘native species thrive where we live work and play’. They integrate biodiversity restoration into business-as-usual primary production.
Cape to City was initiated in 2015 and covers 26,000 ha between Hastings and Cape Kidnappers, and extends southwards to include Waimarama and forest remnants at Kahurānaki.
Poutiri Ao ō Tāne has been running since 2011. This project (8,800 ha) covers a variety of land-uses and is located on the Maungaharuru Range, with Boundary Stream Mainland Island at its heart.
DOC is delighted to be part of this collaboration between the Hawke’s Bay Regional Council, Cape Sanctuary, Landcare Research, iwi/hapū, the Aotearoa Foundation and landowners.
DOC also works with Cape Sanctuary to bring our native birds back to these areas,
