Introduction

DOC Reefton staff have a brand-new field base office.

Date:  29 August 2022

The five rangers based at Reefton moved in last week after spending the past two years operating out of their workshop.

DOC Greymouth Acting Operations Manager Darrell Haworth says the field team had moved into the workshop after having to vacate their rented office space.

“It’s great to get the new build completed and staff moved in. The project was on the books for the past two years, but the effects of the pandemic slowed progress.

“The new office is a kitset building supplied and erected by John Bougen. The design and open plan layout make for a perfect field office and it’s a great asset for the Reefton team.”

The office has hot desks so rangers can download and upload their work, plus do any other desk work needed such as workplan scheduling.

Reefton is a key work site for DOC, says Darrell Haworth.

“The field team looks after Victoria Conservation Park, the largest conservation park in the country. Then there’s Waiuta, which is a key heritage site, as well as supporting the St James Walkway and the Lewis Pass National Reserve.”
