Sara Brill, Northland Regional Council's Weedbusters coordinator said "It's clear from the awards this year that Northlanders are wise to weed spread issues, and realise it's time for them to get stuck in and take action.”
“Groups, organisations, schools, and individuals are volunteering and making a difference in their patch, recognising the value of native species and the massive threat posed by exotics.”
Ms Brill says, “The foresight to see what will happen to Northland landscapes if no action is taken is key to the energy and dedication Weedbusters show attacking some really difficult jobs such as Chris Morey's Omapere site.”
Weedbusters is a weeds awareness and education programme that aims to protect New Zealand's environment from the increasing weed problem. Weedbusters means action - taking part in weed issues is essential if we are to limit the spread and establishment of weeds.
