The Otago Conservancy of the Department of Conservation (DOC) has appointed Cher Knights of Queenstown as its new Business Development Manager.
This position is newly created in the DOC business model and Cher will work in Otago to lead business engagement and develop new initiatives that deliver conservation gains.
Cher comes to DOC from Trojan Holdings where she held a position as sales and marketing manager for the Hermitage Hotel and the company's tour products at Mount Cook. She has a degree in Biological and Environmental Sciences.
She begins her new role on 10 September, will be based in Dunedin but will frequently work from Queenstown where she lives.
Cher is an Australian and moved to New Zealand from Townsville, North Queensland with her family four and a-half years ago.
She has worked in the tourism industry for the past 16 years in various operations, sales and marketing roles.
Commenting on her new role, Cher said: “I strongly believe that the best way to achieve conservation is to engage commercial businesses and stakeholders that have a vested interest in sustainability. DOC is capable of achieving so much more by working in partnership with these parties, which makes this a very exciting role for me.”
