1080 people, recreation and commercial activity

There is no risk to human health from eating native fish, shellfish or wild trout in areas where 1080 bait has been distributed.

It's safe for people to walk in areas where 1080 has been applied.

Livestock are vulnerable to poisoning from 1080. We work with farmers whose properties are adjacent to predator control areas to keep their animals safe.

There is a very low risk to honeybees and honey products from the use of 1080.

We recognise the value of hunting in New Zealand, and we work with hunting groups to understand the impacts of our predator control operations.

1080 operations have never contaminated drinking water in New Zealand. There are regulations and practices to prevent this from happening.
