Clutha planting days

Join DOC on a day out restoring and enhancing habitat for the native freshwater fish species that call the lower Clutha River/Mata-Au catchment home.

Nugget Point Lighthouse Reserve – summer rangers

Papatowai Campsite - facility maintenance

22 - 26 September 2025: Applications are closed.

Volunteer on Quarantine Island/Kamau Taurua

Take a short boat trip into Otago Harbour to join a regular group volunteering event, with both easy and challenging tasks, on Quarantine Island/Kamau Taurua.

Sandfly Bay - wildlife viewing ranger

Mid-October 2025 to mid-April 2026: Help protect the wildlife at Sandfly Bay by teaching visitors about it.

Skippers Point School – maintenance

9 - 13 February 2026: Help out with maintenance on the old historic Skippers Point School.

Urban Nature – panel manager

Four times a year: Volunteer to update Urban Nature engagement panels at a range of sites around Dunedin.

Volunteer with Whakatipu Reforestation Trust

Locals and visitors can volunteer to protect the biodiversity of the Whakatipu Basin by growing nursery plants, planting native trees or joining working bees.

Volunteer with Whakatipu Wildlife Trust

Volunteer activities include predator trapping and bird monitoring for a predator-free environment throughout the greater Lake Whakatipu area.
