Introduction

Have your say on the naming of a scenic reserve on the Kakanui Range, Central Otago. Submissions closed on 10 March 2020.

Pursuant to the New Zealand Geographic Board Act 2008, DOC is giving notice of a proposal to name a scenic reserve in Central Otago. This notice advises of the proposed name for the reserve and seeks submissions that support or object to the proposal before 10 March 2020.

The proposal is to name the reserve only and doesn't relate to establishing it. The reserve was previously created as an outcome of the Longlands Station Pastoral Lease Tenure Review.

Proposed name

The reserve is located on the Kakanui Range, beside State Highway 85 Morrisons Kyeburn Road and approximately 30 km from Ranfurly. The proposed name is the Pātītī Scenic Reserve.

Te Rūnanga o Ngāti Tahu has endorsed the name for the reserve.

How to submit

Submissions closed on 10 March 2020.

Submissions must provide reasons for supporting or objecting to the proposed name. If an objection is made then an alternative name may be suggested.

What happens next?

Before deciding on the name, the Minister of Conservation will consider any submissions received and refer them to the New Zealand Geographic Board (Ngā Pou Taunaha o Aotearoa).

This is in accordance with section 16 of the Reserves Act 1977. Under section 27(3) of the New Zealand Geographic Board (Ngā Pou Taunaha o Aotearoa) Act 2008, submissions will be reviewed by the board.
