Context

The concession for the current occupant will expire on 31 December 2022, and we're open to expressions of interest for future use of these facilities. We invite interested parties to submit their interest through our Expression of Interest ‘EOI’ process. Information gathered from the EOI will assist us to develop a process which best reflects public interest in this concession opportunity.

Requirements

Interest in the Officers’ Mess building:

  • does not need to include the whole building
  • can only be for a restaurant or café activity within the Officers’ Mess building and any organised events associated with use of the building in the adjacent reserve
  • needs to make provision for the NZ Sculpture Onshore sculpture event. This event is held for a 2 to 3 week period in October or November every second year. Anyone with a lease of the Officers' Mess will not be able to user the building during this time.

About the Officers’ Mess building

The area covered by the EOI includes the Officers’ Mess building.

The Officers’ Mess building is located within the wider Fort Takapuna Historic Reserve. This reserve is managed by DOC. The Officers’ Mess building dates to the second World War period of the reserve’s history.

Fort Takapuna Historic Reserve is situated on Vauxhall Road, next to Narrow Neck Beach on Auckland's North Shore and comprises 0.21 ha of land. The reserve contains large flat open spaces that are used for various events. The Officers’ Mess building is currently used as a café and restaurant and is a popular venue for weddings and other events.

1. Prepare your submission

Include:

  • your name
  • the name of any entity you represent
  • your contact details, both email and phone, and
  • a summary of your interest in the land.

2. Send us your submission before 14 August 2020

Send your submission by email or post. You'll get a confirmation email or letter when a submission has been received.

After the EOI process

After the EOI process we'll initiate an allocation which may be:

  • a direct offer to one individual, or
  • in the form of a tender, or
  • in the form of a request for proposals.

To submit in the future allocation process you do not need to have done an expression of interest.
