Application for renting Rangitoto Island baches by RIHCT

Introduction

An application by Rangitoto Island Historic Conservation Trust (RIHCT) to rent out historic baches on Rangitoto Island has been approved for a term of 5 years.

This application is notified under section 17SC of the Conservation Act 1987. The Minister of Conservation has received an application for an application from Rangitoto Island Historic Conservation Trust (RIHCT) for a 5-year lease concession.

Summary of Proposal:

RIHCT seek to restore and/or maintain historic baches 52, 65, 78, 103 and 114.  The baches will be rented out to the public, to encourage overnight stays on the island. RICHT also seek to utilise the Community Hall/Tennis Pavilion for social events.

Any person or organisation may make a submission in writing to the Director-General on the proposal.

Submissions closed on 5:00 pm on 12 February 2019 (Tuesday). 

Decision

The application has been approved for a term of 5 years.
