The Mātauranga Kura Taiao Fund fund supports whānau, hapū and iwi to preserve traditional Māori knowledge and its practical use in the management of indigenous biodiversity.

Central North Island Te Arawa Pita Tamihana Whānau Trust Waiteti: Reconnecting, Reclaiming, Rejuvinating $16,323.04 A series of workshops and wānanga run over three years. The primary focus of the project is the reconnection of the descendants of Pita Tapihana to their whenua.
Lower North Island Ngāti Kahungunu Wharerangi Marae Trust Wharerangi Mahi Toi $99,134.89 A one-year project focused on the revival and retention of the traditional practices whakairo and story telling, and how these practices reaffirm their connection to the taiao.
Central North Island Whakapoungakau, Te Arawa Pikirangi Marae Trust Kahui Taiao Turoa $59,903.55 Pikirangi Marae Trust will host the 3-day Kāhui Taiao Tūroa Hui 2021. This year’s theme is Hapū Mobilisation. Ngāti Uenukukōpako and the Trust will host the event bringing together Māori conservation practitioners from around the country. The hui will include mātanga taiao presentations, space to wānanga, workshops, and haerenga.
Northern North Island Nga Puhi, Ngati Whatua and Ngatiwai Patuharakeke Te Iwi Trust He Kura Taiao ki Patuharakeke 2021 $5,900.00 A three-day wānanga for rangatahi based around engaging with the taiao and tikanga Māori.
Lower North Island Ngāti Porou Wharekahika A1 Trust Te Toka Whakatakata $9,111.25 A rangahau and haerenga based project focused on the sites of significance on the whenua and surrounding moana.
Auckland Ngāi Tai Maraetai No.11 Incorporation Whenua Ora Whanau Ora $7,342.50 A 3-day wānanga for the shareholders of Maraetai No.11. The purpose of the wānanga is to discuss the future of the whenua, their role as kaitiaki and the revival of traditional kaitiaki practises.
Central North Island Te Āti Haunui-a-Pāpārangi Te Atawhai o Te Ao Hao Ngaore: Restoring Hapū Knowledge of Ngaore $35,548.70 Hao Ngaore plans to re-integrate traditional and contemporary conservation practices of ngaore within Ngāti Ruaka, Ngāti Hine and Ngāti Rangi. This mahi will be complemented by carrying out population counts and assessment of the species' habitat within their takiwā, mainly Moutoa Island.
