Whitebait spawning in Christchurch has declined recently with changes to the river banks and vegetation, further impacted by damage and a shift in the saltwater wedge caused by the earthquakes. The project is in partnership with Ngāi Tahu, Whaka Inaka to help improve mahinga kai values of the rivers, being a priority concern in the earthquake recovery process and a key natural resource for the local community. |

Since that time significant areas of the forest have been protected and are regenerating. This project aims to transfer juvenile parea over two seasons, giving them a foot hold on Pitt Island to develop a self-sustaining population. |

This project aims to utilise acoustic attraction methodology to attempt to establish a breeding colony of Royal albatross at the robust Far Point site on Pitt Island, to help ensure the long term security for the species. |

This project aims to remove weed species and replant the reserve with natives consistent with plants already in the area. In addition the reserve will be fenced and eventually covenanted preserving it for future generations. |
