Pre-application information
The Act details additional information that applications for activities within Te Papa-Kura-o-Taranaki must now include, which is outlined below.
In accordance with section 2(2) of Schedule 4 of the Act, an application for an activity within Te Papa-Kura-o-Taranaki must include the following:
- sufficient information about how the proposed activity is consistent with Te Kāhui Tupua status and Ngā Pou Whakatupua, and,
- for applications for interests in Te Whenua Taurikura (a lease, easement, or licence to occupy the land), any additional information about how the proposed activity is consistent with Te Ruruku Pūtakerongo (the collective redress deed) and the Act, and,
- a record of the discussions between the applicant and iwi and hapū of ngā iwi o Taranaki about the application.
- Ensure that they are informed about Te Ruruku Pūtakerongo and this Act, including the effect of Te Kāhui Tupua status and Ngā Pou Whakatupua; and
- Encourage them to enter into discussions with iwi and hapū of ngā iwi o Taranaki with interests in Te Papa-Kura-o-Taranaki about their proposed applications.
Applicants are strongly encouraged to seek a pre-application meeting with a staff member from the Ngāmotu / New Plymouth District Office before preparing and submitting an application. Early engagement helps applicants understand the context, values, and management considerations relevant to Te Papa-Kura-o-Taranaki, including expectations regarding engagement with relevant iwi and hapū.
