Revision of the Hector’s and Māui Dolphin Threat Management Plan: Non-fishing  Measures: Regulatory Impact Statements (PDF, 4,170K)

Summary

Threats to Hector’s and Māui dolphins are managed under the Hector’s and Māui Dolphin Threat Management Plan (TMP), which provides the framework for the identification and effective management of threats by the Department of Conservation and Fisheries New Zealand.

In 2019/2020 a review of the TMP was undertaken by DOC and Fisheries New Zealand, resulting in fishing-related and non-fishing related management measures being implemented to meet the population objectives to protect the dolphins.

This Regulatory Impact Statement provides an analysis of prohibitions and restrictions on seabed mining and seismic surveying in five marine mammal sanctuaries, including extensions to two marine mammal sanctuaries, and measures to address the threat of toxoplasmosis on the dolphins.
