Summary

The Mount Aspiring National Park Management Plan (NPMP) sets out the Department of Conservation’s proposed intentions for park management.

It has been prepared by the Otago and West Coast staff in consultation with the Otago Conservation Board.

The views of  Ngāi Tahu, recreation and conservation groups, concessionaires, other interested groups and the public were integral to developing the NPMP.

The NPMP recognises the mana and tangata whenua status of Ngāi Tahu over their ancestral land and waters within the park and gives effect to the provisions of the Ngāi Tahu Claims Settlement Act 1998.

The NPMP was approved by the New Zealand Conservation Authority on 23 June 2011.
